Robert Shaw (not seen pictured here) of Bloomberg Sports slashed his way to the top of Week 1 of the 411Fantasy.com Expert's Contest. This year features 48 experts polled (so far) with room to grow.

By Adam Conn:

The real Shaw as seen on Fourth and Fantasy

Robert Shaw is known for many things (no, not his role in Jaws… the other Robert Shaw). Among others he is a lobster connoisseur for the site GreatestLobsterRoll.com, which nearly led to the headline “Greatest Lobster Rolls in Week 1″, but that may have been a little too obscure for the fantasy world. He is also a anchor/reporter for Bloomberg Sports, which is well known for its site application called Decision Maker. Shaw was the best decision maker in Week 1, besting a field of 48 polled fantasy football experts with a score of 17.

Shaw racked up eight points on the multiple choice questions, selecting QB Kevin Kolb, RB Tim Hightower, WR Plaxico Burress and the Houston Texans defense as top performers among the options, and he nailed bonus points for Tom Brady, Calvin Johnson, DeSean Jackson and the 49ers defense. Shaw was one of only three experts to select DJax at WR and also was one of very few who backed the 49ers special teams by selecting Akers as one of the top kickers.

He was the second expert to turn in his form, Wednesday evening, neglecting to email his Thursday players in separately and roll the dice through the weekend, which in fact turned out to be the best decision.

Frankly we at 411 are happy to hand the Week 1 “yellow jersey” to Shaw because had it not been for Akers, or an ill-placed receiver, you all would have had to read about how Adam Conn of 411Fantasy.com tied for the lead with his score of 16. As the host site and winner of Week 1 in 2010 and winner of the 2009 experts contest (shameless plug), I think I can afford to have an off week….

Joining Conn in second place was KFFL’s Tim Heaney, a second-year contest vet who got off to a fast start last season as well, and newcomer Joe Everett of TheFantasyExchange.com. Tied for fifth place with 15 points was first-timer, Michael Pichan, a.k.a Fantasy Nomad, of RotoInfo.com and three-time top 10’er Jeff Boggis of FantasySportsEmpires.

A six-way tie ensued for seventh: 411’s Adam Helbling, Andy Behrens and Brad Evans of Yahoo Sports, ESPN’s Eric Karabell, Erik Dell of BabyBlueMonkey.com and Marc Edelman of SportsJudge.com scored 14 points.

Rounding out the top half:

13 points: Andy Stukins (CoachandHud), Chris Morgan (Rotowire), Jake Ciely (RotoExperts), Jamey Eisenberg (CBSsportsline), Jeff Mans (FantasyAlarm.com), Jim Day (GoAheadScore), Matthew Berry (ESPN), Robb Perkins (FF Trader), Russ Bliss (FF Starters) and Scott Piankowski (Yahoo).

12 points: Brandon Funston (Yahoo), Christopher Harris and Tristan Cockcroft (ESPN), Jared Smola (Draft Sharks), Andrew Feingold (RotoExperts) and Christian Ingram (First Fantasy).

Many lurk just behind the leaders and we’re just getting started. Game on!
