5.1 > 3.1
A couple of times today, including just minutes ago on NFL Live, pundits explaining what is wrong with the New York Giants have pointed their fingers at Brandon Jacobs. The big knock is that he isn’t running with the same power he was last year and that the Giants should be using Ahmad Bradshaw more.
One of the things that annoys me most about following the NFL is how so many people settle in on a storyline and despite evidence to the contrary refuse to let go. Yes, earlier in the season Jacobs wasn’t running with power. The problem is that over the last four games Jacobs has averaged 5.1 yards per carry. Ahmad Bradshaw is averaging 3.1. Now I was an English major in college so math isn’t exactly my strong point, but from what I remember 5.1 > 3.1. Also, 5.1 is pretty darned good while 3.1 kinda sucks. Just sayin.
