Helbling (10:48) – Tom Cable back in the news as two women accuse him of physical abuse during their relationship. Tom Cable, in an attempt to make himself look better worse, releases a statement saying he only hit a woman once.
Helbling (10:54) – Jericho Cotchery is expected to play today, but isn’t 100 percent. I wouldn’t be too eager to start Cotchery, even with the Dolphins starting two rookie corners, but this should help Braylon Edwards.
Helbling (10:57) – Chris Mortensen doesn’t expect Calvin Johnson to start today. John Clayton says that he thinks Calvin Johnson will start. If Johnson doesn’t start, take Stafford off your list of QB options for those of you hurting on the bye week. We will get you more as we hear it.
Helbling (11:06) – Adam Schefter is reporting that Swartz is expecting Calvin Johnson to go. When in doubt, trust Schefter imo.
Conn (11:14) – Vikings WR Bernard Berrian (hamstring) will not play today against the Packers. Sidney Rice, already high on my rankings, and Percy Harvin get bumped up the rankings – And you’re welcome for not mentioning Brett Favre…. Crap.
Conn (11:16) – You probably were erring on the side of caution already, but it has been confirmed that Eagles RB Brian Westbrook will not suit up stemming from last week’s concussion. I would ride the Eagles passing game in this matchup, rather than McCoy.
Conn (11:17) – Giants WR Mario Manningham will play today despite injuring his shoulder late this week in practice. Too bad, I was looking forward to seeing Hakeem Nicks in a regular rotation.
Helbling (11:19) – Reports are that the Chiefs and Larry Johnson have agreed on a settlement. Johnson will reportedly be suspended two weeks, but docked only one weeks worth of pay. Jamal Charles has been the player most are picking up, but don’t forget Kolby Smith. Both players have been splitting reps with the first team this week. Both players are only pick-up worthy in deep leagues for now
Conn (11:26) – Texans WR Andre Johnson (lung contusion…?) is expected to play against the Bills today. Even at less than 100 percent, he is a must start
Helbling (11:29) – Both Reggie Wayne and Dwight Freeney are expected to start this week.
Helbling (11:31) – Jared Gaither will start at LT for the Ravens today. Good news for anybody starting Joe Flacco.
Helbling (11:34) – Calvin Johnson is inactive this week. I mentioned it earlier, but imo Stafford isn’t worth a start without Johnson. Look for a healthy dose of Kevin Smith this week from the Lions.
Helbling (11:37) – Updating an earlier update, Mario Manningham is inactive for the Giants aka Conn gets his wish. Hakeem Nicks could serve as a decent No. 3 WR this week.
Conn (11:40) – It was announced earlier in the week, but Panthers WR Mushin Muhammad will not suit up today for Carolina. Dwayne Jarret gets the starting nod.
Conn (11:44) – Colts SS Bob Sanders will see more action this week against the 49ers, although he’s still not at 100 percent. Nevertheless, we like the Colts defense more and more as the season progresses.
Conn (11:46) – As expected Colts RB Donald Brown is inactive today. Chad Simpson is expected to replace him as the No. 2 for Indy., but Simpson isn’t likely to poach too many carries away from Joseph Addai.
Conn (11:51) – Lions QB Matthew Stafford will start against the Rams according to the Detroit Free Press.
Helbling (11:54) – Phil Dawson will resume kicking duties, but why start a Browns kicker?
Helbling (11:59) – No Donte Whitner for the Bills today. Good news for Schaub owners.
Conn (12:02) – WR Dominik Hixon will start for the Giants, not Hakeem Nicks. But we still expect to see Nicks get a good amount of playing time and he possesses more upside between the two.
Conn (12:03) – Rams OG Ritchie Incognito (foot) will not play. He will be replaced by veteran OL Adam Goldberg. Quite honestly, I just wanted to use the name “Incognito” today.
Conn (12:06) – Eagles WR DeSean Jackson was reportedly in a minor one-car fender-bender on Friday, but did not sustain any injuries other than to his ego.
Helbling (12:08) – No Channing Crowder for the Dolphins today. He is being replaced in the line-up by a special teams player. Give a small bump to the Jets running backs this week.
Helbling (12:10) – Jerome Harrison is listed as inactive for the Browns. There were reports earlier in the week about the team giving Joshua Cribbs some carries at running. This might be a sign that those reports are true.
Helbling (12:37) – An organized protest of the Browns poor play by the fans isn’t making Rob Ryan happy.
Ryan, whose unit ranks a dead-last 32nd, said of the protest, “It pisses me off.”
“This is a town that’s tough, that loves football,” he said on Friday. “Nobody’s happy. I hate me too, I already said it. So they hate me too, great. It doesn’t mean you turn your back.”
I’m all for fan shenanigans, but this seems pretty silly. It isn’t like the Browns front office is going to have a Monday meeting where they decide that their business model of being an embarrassment to football should be reworked.
And yes, the news is slow when six teams are on a bye.
Helbling (12:46) – Rookie WR Brian Hartline gets the starting nod over Ted Ginn Jr. this week. Neither are really worth a start, just an FYI. Hartline might be somebody to keep an eye on in deeper leagues.
Helbling (12:49) – Reports are that the Packers plan on working more screen plays to keep the Vikings defense off balance. If you are in a PPR league, give a small boost to Grant this week.
Helbling (12:57) – I’m calling it a wrap for this week. Be sure to check in all this week as we have another full slate of NFL coverage. Good luck this week, unless you face one of us. Actually, good luck unless you play me or Jeff. If you happen to play Conn….destroy him.
