Sunday Scramble: Latest news

Tabs were invented so you can listen to 411’s Big Daddy podcast while you follow this Sunday’s Scramble. Feel free to use the comments if you have any line-up questions or comments.

Helbling (10:56) Got my coffee in hand and ready to roll.

Helbling (10:57) Antoine Winefield is out against the Steelers today. I’m a big Big Ben fan today who has turned into a must start regardless of match-up fantasy quarterback this season. Reports are that Winefield’s injury could be a 4-6 week deal.

Helbling (10:58) – No Tommy Harris for the Bears this week. This should help Cedric Benson in his quest for revenge.

Helbling (11:04) Fox Sports is reporting that Cowher’s name is popping up in connection to the Buc’s. One and done season for Raheem Morris is looking more and more possible.

Helbling (11:08) – Peter King reports that Anquan Boldin looks good to go for tonight’s game. Complicating things for fantasy owners is the late start to the game. If you have another option, you might want to play it safe. Finding out Boldin is a late scratch and a zero in your line-up might be too much gamble for some.

Helbling (11:19) – Some Sunday reading for you.

Had the Dolphins ignored their doctors and signed Brees — who at the time preferred to play in Miami — two franchises would have reversed course, and the football world would look very different today. Nick Saban might still be coaching in Miami rather than Alabama. Bill Parcells likely would not be in Miami with all the coaches he brought with him. New Orleans might not be thriving the way it is now. And nobody would be reflecting on the circumstances that led Brees to leave Miami for New Orleans, and the game he has against the Dolphins on Sunday.

Schefter, like a lot of people, seem to be high on a Dolphins upset this week.  Jeff and Adam both seemed to think this would be a closer game than people think. I feel like the last sane person in a crazy world. Saints roll.

Helbling (11:24) – My ‘Saints roll’ now guarantees Dolphins victory.

Helbling (11:25) – No Phil Dawson for the Browns. Billy Cundiff will continue to fill in, but why would you start a Browns kicker?

Helbling (11:29) – Schefter reporting on ESPN that refs might be in helmets next season to protect them. Might I suggest…..

Helmet? Check. Awesome? Double Check.

Helmet? Check. Awesome? Double Check.

Helbling (11:44) – Percy Harvin is active against the Steelers this week. He could work as a weak No. 3 with some upside. I think this is going to be a more offensive game (not Browns/Buffalo offensive).

Helbling (11:46) – Forgot to mention that 411’s Jeff Thitoff will be on The Fan today to talk fantasy football somewhere around 12:10. Give a listen.

Helbling (11:47) – No Edleman or Morris for the Pats today. L. Maroney is a good start today, especially with the byes. Sam Aiken should be the No. 3 WR for the Pats this week against an awful Bucs defense.

Helbling (11:51) – Schefter reporting that he ‘thinks’ Boldin will start tonight. Just trying to give out as much info as possible. Schefter’s reporting is typically spot-on so I would feel more comfortable taking the gamble that he isn’t a late scratch.

Helbling (11:54) – Chad Clifton is inactive for the Packers today. The Packers have had an awful time protecting Rodgers this season and his lack of time in the pocket has really hurt G. Jennings value and helped D. Driver’s.

Helbling (11:56) – Frank Gore is officially active and should resume his every down role.

Helbling (12:02) – Jordy Nelson is out for the Packers. James Jones is the team’s No. 3 WR. If you are in a pinch and in a deep league he might be worth a look as a weak No. 3.

Helbling (12:06) – More Sunday reading for you on the myths of the Wildcat.

As for the Dolphins, let’s not rely on expert commentary. Let’s talk cold, dry statistics. They’ve run 48 Wildcat plays in five games and average 6.6 yards per play. They average 4.7 yards a play out of their base offense.

That’s 40 percent more yards per play out of the Wildcat.

Is that a formation that’s not working?

Helbling (12:09) – Reports are that the Cowboys are expecting Roy Williams to give it a go today and will have all three running backs in action today.  T. Choice’s value takes a hit here. I think he could work as a flex, but I still don’t buy he will get enough carries to make much of a difference.

Helbling (12:16) - Thitoff on-air now.

Helbling (12:24) – Anthony Gonzalez is inactive again for the Colts, the team is looking at him returning to practice Week 8.

Helbling (12:28) – Bob Sanders returns to the Colts defense. I really like them this week against the Rams.

Helbling (12:29) – Donnie Avery is expected to start today as well.  I expect the Rams to be passing a lot today so Avery has some value.

Helbling (12:32) – No surprise, but J. Cotchery is out of the Jets today. Braylon Edwards is nicked up as well. I think the Jets go run heavy, unlike the Eagles, this week. I like Thomas Jones and Leon Washington a lot this week. I think Edwards works as a No. 3 with upside in most leagues.

Helbling (12:37) – Chris Mortensen is reporting all kinds of Crabtree love from around the league on his twitter account this morning. He is expected to start, but I just don’t buy that he is ready to contribute. With all the byes he might be worth a look in deeper leagues, but the holdout, no preseason and only two weeks of practice would keep me away for now.

Helbling (12:42) – Ditka and company bagging on the Chargers being ’soft’. I agree, but think the biggest problem is that Norv Turner is just not a very good head coach.

Helbling (1:01) – That will do it for the Scramble today. We have another full slate of goodies planned for this week so be sure to check back often. See you next week for another Sunday Scramble. Good luck this week, unless you face one of us.
