Browns Trade Braylon Edwards
By Adam Helbling
The big news for the day, and likely the week, is the Browns trading wide receiver Braylon Edwards to the the New York Jets. Early reports indicate that the deal has the Jets shipping wide receiver Chansi Stuckey, linebacker Jason Trusnick and two draft picks to the Browns for Edwards.
Edwards was involved in a number of trade rumors during the preseason, but nothing ever materialized. The Browns willingness to trade Edwards now probably has a good deal to do with his reported late-night punch of an entertainment promoter. Hands of stone is one thing, but coupled with off the field problems is another.
A quick fantasy breakdwon is that Chansi Stuckey gets a boost in fantasy value. The Browns will likely to continue to play from behind and other than rookie wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi, no other wide receiver has shown the ability to contribute. Edwards situation is a bit more cloudy. Much of Edwards value depends solely on him. He has stuggled this season, in part, because Brady Quinn lacks the arm strength to stretch the field. A problem that rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez does not have. Edwards will also have a wide receiver in Jerricho Cotchery that should prevent defenses from focusing solely on him. However, if Edwards brings the same attitude and hands to New York that he had in Cleveland that all may be a wash. Fantasy owners would do well to keep in mind that with the league cracking down on players conduct off the field, Edwards could face discipline action for his recent late-night run-in.
We will be back later with a more detailed breakdown as we learn more details about the trade, but wanted to make sure that you had the latest info.
